On inoculating 7-day-old plants levels of nitrate and nitrite nitrogen and ntirate reductase (NR) activity were higher than in the healthy controls at all periods of infection. Max. levels of nitrite and NR activity were found in the leaf, followed by the root and stem. Nitrate was max. in the stem, followed by the root and leaf.
