At the Kiev City Pulmonological Center [Ukrainian SSR, USSR], the method of zonal lung rheography was used to study the characteristics of ventilation and blood flow in 100 patients (63 males and 37 females), aged 17-51 yr, suffering from chronic bronchitis. Presence of chronic inflammation in the bronchial tree affected ventilation and perfusion. Pathogenetic therapy carried out at a specialized department improved the ventilation characteristics to a greater degree than that of the blood flow. Taking into consideration the rheopulmonography data indicating that ventilation and perfusion have not been completely recovered, it is concluded that after discharge from the hospital, the patients with chronic bronchitis should be registered at a dispensary to continue treatment on an outpatient basis. Data of zonal lung rheography may serve as criterion of the efficacy of the measures taken.
