A case of eosinophilic leukemia associated with Löffler's endocarditis. Clinical course and autopsy findings

A 46 yr old male presented with eosinophilia in peripheral blood (white cell count 244,500/mm3 with eosinophils 96%) and bone marrow (nuclear cell count 546,000/mm3 with 96% eosinophils). ECG changes were consistent with myocardial disease and repeated pulmonary congestion was noted. He died of heart failure. The bone marrow at the time of autopsy revealed increased pathologic blast cells in the manubrium of sternum; the adjacent sternal marrow and other part of bone marrow were filled with mature eosinophils. He had mural thrombi in both ventricles and fibrotic endocarditis consistent with Loffler's endocarditis.
