Infant fatness and feeding practices: a longitudinal assessment

A longitudinal survey of 403 infants, from birth to 18 months, was done to investigate the hypothesis that bottle feeding and early introduction of solid foods in infant diets contribute to infant and childhood obesity. Dietary information and anthropometric measurements were collected on 10 occasions for bottle and breast fed babies. Results do not support either a relationship between type of milk feeding or time of introduction of solid food and fatness at 6 months of age, or the hypothesis that fat infants remain fat.
