The population of Sharjah, although racially mixed, consists of predominantly Arabs, or Asians recently arrived from the Indian Subcontinent. The spectrum of disease is very different from a typical UK practice and exhibits a marked lack of the so-called 'diseases of civilization'. Of local interest is skeletal and dental fluorosis.
