Hysterosalpingographic and celioscopic findings obtained on examining 105 sterile women were compared. The patency of the uterine tubes was studied by using hydroviscous substances (Joduron S) and in chromopertubation a solution of methylene blue (Coloxyd) with 1% procaine was used. Comparison of the results yielded fully corresponding findings in only 38 patients (36.2%). With hysterosalpingography, false positive results were obtained in 16 patients (15.2%) and false negative results in 13 patients (12.4%). Hysterosalpingography is the simpler of the 2 methods, but it has certain limitations in detecting sterility. Celioscopy with chromoperturbation, though more demanding to perform, enables overall visualization of the true pelvis, and particularly the recognition of intraabdominal adhesions. The 2 methods studied supplement each other as means for establishing complex diagnosis of sterility.
