A systematic study of the effect of neurotoxic agents on neurotransmitter binding to specific receptors requires the simultaneous assay of several closely related ligand-receptor interactions. Conditions were presented which allowed the determination of dopaminergic, .alpha.-noradrenergic and .beta.-noradrenergic receptor sites within the same brain areas without major overlap of selectivity. As a result, regional distribution of catecholaminergic receptor sites and some characteristics of binding were described in rats.
