For the past 5 yr, 165 patients in whom papillitis was confirmed endoscopically and histologically were observed. This accounted for 25.5% of all the cases of disorders of the organs of the hepatopancreaticoduodenal zone for this period. The clinical picture of papillitis had no characteristic symptoms. Patients with papillitis almost alwyas had various diseases of the gallbladder and biliary ducts, pancreas and duodenum, often as a primary lesion (83%) and less so as a concurrent disease. Owing to this in endoscopically confirmed papillitis (even in the lack of clinical symptoms), it is necessary to thoroughly examine the hepatopancreaticoduodenal zone (with an application of retrograde pancreaticocholangiography through the endoscope) to reveal in due time the affection of organs of this zone.
