The results in the present study suggest that a probiotic intervention with activated charcoal probiotics toothpaste (Hyperbiotics, USA) could be a beneficial tool in oral health. This approach may provide a valuable addition or alternative to the armamentarium of treatment options for oral hygiene practices. On the one hand, the tested probiotics, and in lesser amount, its xylitol-content, seem to be as effective in reducing salivary S. mutans levels. On the other hand, it also facilitates the daily remineralization process to prevent dental erosion. Their constant long-term application is thus recommended to prevent dental caries.
