Antifertility effects on epididymal spermatozoa were tested by administration of 5.alpha.-reductase inhibitors [testosterone propionate, 4-androsten-3-one-17.beta.-carboxylic acid, 4-androsten-3-one-17.beta.-carboxylic acid methyl ester, dihydrotestosterone propionate] to androgen-substituted adult castrated male mice. The inhibitors depressed the in vitro fertilizing ability and in vitro blastocyst development in testosterone-substituted castrated male mice.
