One parent-adolescent triad experiencing conflict concerning rules, responsibilities, and values received 6 sessions of treatment. Treatment consisted of problem-solving training for resolving specific disputes and communication training for modifying negative family interactions. Graduated homework assigments were used to promote generalization of newly-acquired skills to the home. Analysis of self-report and behavioral measures revealed considerable amelioration of specific disputes at home and improvement in parent-adolescent communication. Treatment gains were maintained at a 10 mo. follow-up.
