A note on chloroquine sensitivity in P. falciparum in Sonepat District (Haryana)

Of 669 blood smears obtained from fever cases in 3 villages in Sonepat district, Haryana, India, in November, 1980, 395 were positive for Plasmodium (388 P. falciparum, 3 P. vivax and 4 mixed). A group of 33 P. falciparum cases with asexual parasitaemia were investigated for sensitivity to chloroquine. Children received 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4 of the adult dose (1500 mg base) and those above 14 years old received the adult dose. All patients showed complete clearance of asexual parasites from day 2 and none reappeared up to day 28.
