Ventilatory study in simple coal worker's pneumoconiosis

A spirometric study of 175 miners with simple coal workers pneumoconiosis was reported; 41% had normal ventilatory functions. Ventilatory functions were impaired to a greater extent with increasing years of work at the coal face. FVC decreased among smokers. Cigarette smoking appeared to have an additive effect in ventilatory abnormalities.
