The ultrastructural features of spermatogenesis and the fine structure of spermatozoa of the European mole (T. europaea) are described with particular reference to the acrosome and subacrosomal substance. In the process of spermiogenesis, the developing acrosome progressively enlarges until it reaches a final size of about 8 .mu.m long. At the apex of the nucleus, the subacrosomal space takes on the aspect of a finger-like projection which contains a rod of dense substance. A material with paracrystalline organization was often observed in the nuclear protrusion. In the midpiece a peculiar arrangement of the outer dense fibers causes bilateral symmetry.
