Gastric dilatation-gastric torsion complex in the dog: treatment results and recurrence

Of 78 cases presented over six years 59 underwent laparotomy and gastrotomy, 6 laparotomy and gastric intubation, 10 gastric intubation, and 3 died before treatment. Age, breed and sex of the cases are given. Of 36 dogs that survived treatment and were followed up for between 13 months and 4 years, 20 (55.5%) had recurrence. Surgical techniques for preventing recurrence are discussed.
