A review is given of 42 cases of liver abscess due to Entamoeba histolytica treated in Paris during the last 13 years. 34 were males. Of 39 who had lived outside France for varying periods (15 days to 30 years), 23 had been in Africa. 12 were treated by medicine alone (best with metronidazole) and 30 required surgical intervention. Subsequent surveillance is important. Immunological reactions may remain raised for 3 months but after that they should gradually subside.
