Nitroglycin has a direct myocardial effect and is involved, besides its negative inotropic action, in active relaxation and passive diastolic properties of the heart. Nitroglycerin seems to be in synergy with the effect of coronary ligation. The nature of the supposed direct myocardial effect of nitroglycerin was studied and compared with that of acute arrest of coronary perfusion in rabbit heart.
