During 1 yr, 6 patients over the age of 65 with brain tumors, 3 benign and 3 malignant, were operated upon. Three presented as cerebrovascular accidents, 2 as arteriosclerotic disease and in only 1 was tumor suggested. The cases were diagnosed mainly due to the use of radioactive brain scans and computerized axial brain tomography (CT scan). All underwent radical removal of the tumor. The results were excellent in 5 and good in 1. As a result of progress in diagnostic procedures and anesthetic and neurosurgical techniques, the treatment of choice of brian tumors in the elderly probably should be radical removal.
