Plasma adrenaline concentrations were measured in 9 pediatric patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass under neuroleptanesthesia. Compared to control values, plasma adrenaline increased 34-fold and noradrenaline 2.2-fold during cardiopulmonary bypass. The increase in plasma catecholamines during bypass reported in adult cases was confirmed in these pediatric cases, and changes in plasma adrenaline concentrations during bypass were much more profound in pediatric patients.
