External rupture of the uterus: a dead case report

An autopsy case of a patient with external incomplete uterine rupture with massive internal hemorrhage causing maternal and fetal death. A few cases of similar types of rupture found in the literature are reviewed. This report draws attention to the possibility of external uterine rupture when there are signs of an intraabdominal catastrophe during or after labor when no uterine tear can be detected on manual uterine cavity exploration.
