210 boys (8-15 years) with a mean Hb of 10.78±0.15 g/dl, were stratified by age and were randomly assigned to three treatment groups: Brown (placebo), Yellow (30 mg Fe), and Orange (40 mg Fe) tablets. Dosing was done for 60 days at a stretch at the beginning of the school term. Baseline and final Kb values were determined 4 months apart. Results of this blind study indicated that: (a) In investigator distributions both 30 mg and 40 mg of Fe were equally efficacious and brought about mean increases in lib of 1.17 g/dl and 1.25 g/dl respectively at final evaluation, (b) However, when teachers are to be entrusted with the job of distribution, with 40 mg Fe dose nearly three-quarters of the children showed increases of I g Hb/d1 or more: it was significantly less with 30 mg dose.
