Ten days after Cu iontophoresis into the vas deferens of rats and rabbits, the animals were mated with fertile females. In spite of their normal mating behavior, live spermatozoa could not be detected in the vaginal smears. Six months after Cu deposition, vasal spermatozoal motility was normal towards the epididymal side but these were all dead when sampled from beyond the Cu site. The vasal lumen was patent and Cu could be detected at the site of deposition.
