Fish are the 1st vertebrates in which the coronary system can be found. The vascularization of the ventricular wall might be limited to the cortical compact layer, or can be also extended to the inner spongy layer, as in the case of the most active animals. The relationship between the coronary and lacunary circuits are briefly discussed. Some implications for a better insight of the luminal supply of the mammalian subendocardium are stressed. Some natural models for developmental and environmental cardiology are illustrated.
