Vascular rings necessitating right thoracotomy

Three young patients manifested upper airway symptoms from vascular rings accessible only through a right thoracotomy. A double aortic arch with atresia of the right posterior segment, an anomaly not previously documented, was found in 1 infant. The 2 others had a left aortic arch, retroesophageal right descending aorta and a right ductus arteriosus. Angiograms were necessary to define these unusual aortic arch malformations.
