Sexual pathology can be difficult to diagnose in absolute terms, even when the partnership and individual norm determinators are considered. Sexual dysfunctions and deviations must not always be treated as an absolute pathogenic factor. Their normalcy or pathology are determined by at least 3 factors: personality characteristics including the autoacceptation of the existing sexual preferences and the range of suffering included; the situation context; and the whole set of factors concerning the partnership system.
