The effects of dietary Ca integration or combined parenteral treatment with a synthetic anabolic agent on osteoporotic changes induced by a low Ca diet were evaluated in groups of rats. Total body weight and the weight of separate bones (long bones of the limbs) particularly were examined. The X-ray findings on these bones are also discussed. The anabolic agent (nandrolone decanoate, daily dosage 2 mg/kg for 7 days) was very effective in inducing steady total weight increase and increase in the weight of every bone whereas a simple high Ca diet is not apt to maintain bone growth beyond the 40th day after 20 days of a low Ca diet.
