Intussuception as a complication of chronic lymphocytic leukemia

The case of a 58-year-old man with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-cell type) who later developed an intussusception of the small intestine due to a tumor is described. The histopathological findings of the removed tumor were compatible with those of diffuse small lymphocytic lymphoma (B-cell type). The residual tumor became smaller with CHOP therapy. It is considered that CLL cell infiltration into the small intestine resulted in intussusception. Since many tumors and lymphomas can form polypoid lesions causing an intussusception. This is a possible complication of CLL and it could occur even when the WBC count is well controlled.
