The activity of the T-lymphocytes in the peripheral blood of 202 patients with lymphogranulomatosis (Hodgkin's disease) was studied using some in vitro tests (blast transformation activation by PHA ; incorporation of 3H-thymidine into stimulated leukocytes and determination of the percentage of cells forming rosettes with sheep red blood cells) and in vivo tests (reaction to intracutaneous injection of PHA). In Hodgkin's disease, the content of the peripheral T-lymphocytes and their functional activity are lowered. After a course of radiation or combined therapy the in vitro tests showed substantially lower values. At the same time the delayed type hypersensitivity showed a tendency to normalization both in the course of the therapy and for various periods after it. A positive reaction lasting for a period from 1-42 mo. was noted in 40% of patients whose treatment resulted in stable remissions. In all patients with relapses of the disease, the cutaneous reactions were negative.
