Coronary disease risk in men aged 40-59 working in lime-producing industry

In a cross-sectional study of 498 men aged 40-59 yr working in lime-producing industry the distribution of coronary arterial disease risk factors was established using the inquiry form of EURO 8202 (WHO) program determining blood triglycerides and glucose. Cigarette smoking was the most widespread risk factor present in 71.4% of these men. The prevalence of arterial hypertension was 17.7%, hypercholesterolemia 13.1%, body weight 15% above the norm (23.7%) and low physical activity in 15.1%. The prevalence of the 4 last mentioned factors was higher than in a similar study of the population in Southern Poland. The overall prevalence of 3 main risk factors, cigarette smoking, arterial hypertension and hypercholesterolemia, was 2.2%. The prevalence of angina was 7% associated with a significantly higher prevalence of arterial hypertension compared with the remaining studied men.
