Delayed medical treatment of cerebral ischemic accidents. Therapeutic combination of anticoagulants and platelet antiaggregation agents

Anticoagulants (cumarin drugs) and platelet aggregation inhibitory agents (acetylsalicylic acid and dipyridamole) were mixed in ischemic cerebral attack treatment. The thromboembolic process could thus be inhibited without the risk of hemorrhage. Patients [45] were studied, 28 of the problem type and 17 as control, diagnosed of ischemic cerebral attack for thromboembolism. All received treatment for their basic pathology and prophylaxis of risk factors. The pharmacological mixture of the study was administered to the problem type. The average duration of the follow-up was 29 mo. This mixture was inefficient and the use of anticoagulants is not advised, except in cases of cardiac embolic source. An adequate prophylaxis of the risk factors is recommended as the ideal therapy, which could be reinforced with the use of platelet aggregation inhibitory agents.
