A method of saccharin determination in soft drinks is described. The procedure involves extraction with ethyl acetate, purification of extracts and saccharin methylation with methyl iodide in dimethylsulfoxide. The methylated saccharin derivative was determined by the method of gas chromatography. The detectability of the method was 0.2 mg/l of drinks, the recovery rate tested at saccharin levels 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.6 and 3.2 mg/l ranged from 66.9-97.9%, depending in the amount of saccharin in the drink.
