Hypoplasia or absence of a human vertebral pedicle is a rare anomaly, especially in the lumbar region. This congenital defect should be differentiated from vertebral destruction by a malignant or infectious process. With the aid of computerized tomography, the lesion was demonstrated in detail, including the rim of compact bone around all the bony structures. This proved the benign, congenital nature of the defect.
