Beta-thromboglobulin is elevated in renal failure without thrombosis

.beta.-Thromboglobulin = 0.78), CCR (r = 0.73) and .beta.2-MG (r = 0.76). The normal range (.hivin.X .+-. SD) of .beta.-TG was 33.9 .+-. 9.7 ng/ml. Values consistantly above 35 ng/ml were observed at serum creatinine 1.5 mg/dl. .beta.-TG is probably a tubular protein the concentration of which rises in patients with renal failure. These findings invalidate the use of .beta.-TG for detection of thrombosis in patients with impaired renal function unless the degree of renal failure is taken into account.
