A retrospective study of carcinomas of the oral cavity: a preliminary report

A series of 585 carcinomas of the oral cavity, lips and oropharynx was studied by biostatistical methods to determined relevant prognostic symptoms of oral cavity carcinomas, classify of the series on the basis of these symptoms, determine therapeutic efficacy and collective and individual prognosis. Factors of prognostic relevance are probably only tumor size and intensity of regional metastases. The classification of the series was problematic due to the lack of relevant prognostic factors. Radical surgery seems to be the therapy of choice for the primary tumor and the regional metastases. The assessment of collective and individual prognosis should by new biostatistical models.
