The effectiveness of nepresol in arresting hypertensive crises and its effect on central hemodynamic and myocardial contractility indices were studied. Nepresol was given to 30 patients with various stages of hypertension. Based on anamnesis, clinical picture and central hemodynamic indices, the patients were divided into a group of 22 patients with eukinetic and hypokinetic crises, and into a group of 8 patients with hyperkinetic crises. A single dose (12.5-25 mg) of nepresol caused a considerable decrease of total peripheral resistance and a marked hypotensive effect in all patients. In patients with hypo- and eukinetic crises, the drug caused a decrease of arterial pressure and an increase of the myocardial contractility index. Nepresol was recommended for application in uncomplicated hypertensive hypo- and eukinetic crises. The frequency and severity of side effects depended on the dose and method of application. The mildest side effect was observed with a 12.5 mg dose.
