Cancer of vocal cord and Hashimoto disease in 19-year-old woman

Coexistence of vocal cord carcinoma (T1N0) and Hashimoto's disease is described in a 19 yr old woman. A chordectomy was performed. During the following X-ray therapy moderate laryngeal stricture developed and the radiotherapy had to be discontinued after half the planned dose had been delivered. Control examination was done after 6 yr. Laryngeal stricture persisted, but no recurrence of the neoplasm was found. Scintigraphy and biochemical investigations demonstrated hypothyroidism.
