Patients (62) were treated over a 3 yr period for testicular and hydatid torsion. In 37 cases the torsion was surgically corrected and function saved. The organ was removed in 23 cases. Of the 62 patients, 52 were seen again (84%) for a clinical and endocrinological follow-up examination. The clinical follow-up study included the measurement of the size of the organ, its weight and span. Volumes were determined by Hynie orchidometer. Serum values for FSH (follitropin), LH (lutropin), testosterone, prolactin and .beta.-human chorionic gonadotropin were determined radiologically. At the time of the follow-up study 27 patients were over 18 yr old. A spermiogram was made in 17 patients. Patients under 18 were not subjected to this examination. In cases where a testis was removed, there was a compensatory volume increases in the remaining testis. The testosterone values in patients who had undergone orchidectomy and those in patients with renewed torsion were in the normal range. Gonadal stimulation both by FSH and LH exceeded the normal in both groups. Patients with renewed torsion, in part, had oligospermia. Some patients with only 1 surviving testis had normal zoospermia and were fully fertile.
