Chromosome changes in women with senile dementia

A cytogenetic study was done on 20 women with senile dementia and on controls. The presence of involutive organic brain syndrome is apparently not associated with an increased number of hypodiploid cells in the peripheral blood. In the aneuploid metaphases, an unexpectedly high number of cells missing a G group chrmosome was seen. The loss of a C group chromosome (probably an X chromosome) was even more common.
