The cardiac muscle in adult rats was damaged by means of electrodiathermocoagulation. The regeneration stimulator Co-35, a complex Co compound, was injected. This preparation induces the formation of cross-striated muscle fibers in the focus of damage. The EM investigation showed that at early stages, 7 and 13 days after operation, muscle stumps are markedly dedifferentiated, myofibrils disappear and a great many ribosomes and polysomes appear. The muscle stumps give rise to chains of chaotically linked myoblasts. In the control, muscle stumps in the experiments do not dedifferentiate without a stimulator and myoblasts do not form. Both in the control and experiment, in granulations, at some distance from muscle stumps, cells containing in their protoplasm bundles of myofilaments with wide cross striations arise. These are myofibroblasts. An exact cellular source of muscle fiber formation was not established.
