Patients [160] with pilonidal sinus underwent surgery. After excision there was secondary healing in all patients. During follow-up of 5-15 yr there were recurrent sinuses in 6%. Excision and secondary healing allow a definitive single-staged operation which is suitable for all types of sinuses (infected, clean, primary, recurrent, etc.). Apparently, this method is preferable to excision and primary closure or other methods.
