Physical fitness is the ability to perform muscular work satisfactorily under specified conditions (WHO). It has 2 aspects: aerobic and anaerobic power and capacity. The aerobic power is influenced by the different components of the O2 transporting system. Little is known of the factors influencing the anaerobic power and capacity. Physical fitness tests are useful in many areas of medical practice and research, before their clinical application, norms must be established for different regions even in the same country (WHO, 1968). Studies relating to olympic and other athletes and active people from the armed forces (Malhotra, Ramasamy, Joseph and Sen Gupta; Sen Gupta, Srinivasulu, Sampath Kumar and Malhotra, were reported from India. Studies involving normal male and female adults were done here.
