Studies have shown that only certain specific physical menopausal symptoms are treated successfully by estrogen therapy, e.g. heat flashes, atrophic vaginitis. Other psychological symptoms can come as a result of disturbances in other relationships. Problems at work can interfere with the socio-structural system. Problems with one's spouse or child can disturb the interpersonal system. Emotional reactions to one's own aging can disturb the intrapsychic system. Such disturbances can manifest themselves physically. Conversation is the best therapy for such problems, and the patient should be encouraged to talk with someone who can help her.
