Normal rabbits on treatment with glibenclamide, the most potent hypoglycemic agent, showed improvement in glucose tolerance, increase in body wt, serum and liver lipids, liver free amino acids and serum urea, and decrease in blood sugar, liver proteins and glycogen. Glibenclamide has an antilipolytic effect both in vivo and in vitro. The possible mechanism of action of the drug is discussed.
