Cholelithiasis and cholecystitis (an appraisal of clinico-surgical experiences with 228 cases)

Cases (228) of cholecystitis are analyzed. The most common presentations were chronic cholecystitis (109) and acute cholecystitis (63). The high incidence of the disease in males past the age of 50 yr is emphasized. Patients (33) had jaundice at the time of assessment and 30 admitted to a history of jaundice in the past; but 13 of these 30 had normal choledochus proven by preoperative cholangiogram. Cholangitis and pancreatitis were other important complications. More than 50% of the stones were radioluscent.
