To study increased sensitivity of the bronchi to allergens, it is advisable to use the mass spectrometric method of recording an allergic bronchospasm. Recording of the curve of variation in CO2 partial pressure in the exhaled air by a respiratory mass spectrometer enables study of the reactivity of the smooth muscles of the bronchi to allergens when making provocative inhalation tests. The increased reactivity of the bronchi in patients can be judged by a considerable decrease in an angular coefficient of partial pressure increment of CO2 and an increase in the radius of the curve of CO2 partial pressure increment in the exhaled air after inhalation of a specific allergen. Respiratory mass spectrometry is more sensitive and objective than the spirography and pneumotachometry also used for the evaluation of bronchial reactivity to inhalation of an allergen.
