Effects of propranolol on cardiac arrhythmias induced by the intracerebroventricular administration of K-strophantin in rats

In urethane anesthetized rats the intracerebroventricular (icv) administration of k-strophanthin (25 .mu.g) induced cardiac arrhythmias. These arrhythmias might be prevented by (.+-.) propranolol, (+) propranolol and (-) propranolol injected icv or i.p. The protection was due primarily to the central effects of propranolol. .beta.-Adrenolytic and quinidine-like properties were necessary for the antiarrhythmic activity.
