Possible incidence of various forms of bone necrosis in the area of the knee is discussed. Contrast arthrography is important for indicating the correct therapeutic procedure. A primary conservative procedure is important. Operated patients are reported. A girl developed, after a knee injury, necrosis of the proximal part of the articular surface of the patella without formation of a free body. The condition was resolved by partial ablation of the patella in the affected portion. After a 2 yr follow-up, the results are satisfactory.
