Some observations on tryptamine-tetrazolium reductase activity of rat brain

Certain characteristics of tryptamine deamination and tryptamine-tetrazolium reductase activity of rat brain mitochondria were investigated. Deamination of tryptamine was more sensitive to monoamine oxidase inhibitors in vivo or in vitro. The inhibition curves of tryptamine deamination by crude mitochondrial preparation of rat brain in presence of clorgyline, deprenyl and pargyline were of double-sigmoid nature while the tetrazolium reductase inhibition curves were sigmoidal. The oxidation of some derivatives of tryptamine by rat brain crude mitochondrial preparation was also studied.
