The relation between the spontaneous secretion of thyrotropin (induced by the injection of thyroliberin) and exacerbations of duodenal ulcers was studied in 123 patients with duodenal ulcers and 78 healthy persons. The reverses of thyrotropin in the hypophysis was also determined in patients with this disease. An increase in thyrotropin secretion is apparently connected with disorders of neuroendocrine regulation in the hypothalamus, hypophysis and endocrine complexes in the gastroduodenal region. A decrease in thyroliberin-induced secretion of thyrotropin indicates the possible interconnection between duodenal ulcers and depression.
