Progressive muscular weakness in a herd of Pietrain pigs commenced at two to three weeks of age, taking the form of a muscular tremor when the piglets were standing. Impaired gait followed, and by 12 weeks of age the pigs had become permanently recumbent. The breeding data indicated autosomal recessive inheritance.
